Our program offers courses for an Associate of Science Degree with Designation in Geology, which provides the first two years of course work towards a Bachelor of Science degree in geology for transferring students and is a solid foundation for many related fields.

Our instructors have a wealth of experience to share with students, and we have a variety of course options. We offer many transferable (GT) courses that meet the natural science requirement for AA, AS, AGS, and AAS degrees. Our GT-SC1 lab courses include Physical Geology w/Lab (GEY 1111), Historical Geology w/Lab (GEY 1112, Environmental Geology w/Lab (GEY 1135), General Oceanography w/Lab (GEY 1155), and Environmental Science w/Lab (ENV 1111). For GT-SC2 non-lab courses, we offer Geology of National Parks (GEY 1108) and Natural Disasters (ENV 1010).

Each term, we also offer short-term weekend classes on specific geologic topics for one, two, or three credits. Examples include a 1-credit course on Rock & Mineral ID, a 2-credit course about Caves, and a 3-credit course on The Geology of Colorado. These are a great way to explore a topic of interest, fill a schedule, and earn college credit.

Nearly all of our courses incorporate field trips as a key part of the educational experience.  We even offer extended Field Courses that provide the opportunity for in-depth geological exploration of geologically-exciting places such as the Big Island of Hawaii.

The Geology Department is located on the 2nd floor of the west wing on the Lakewood campus, along with the other Natural Science departments.
